Street Sighting ~ Dodge Challenger

Image
Something a little different, American - powa~fall Eye candy for all the wrong reasons. A fantastic spot by Ziggy as we waited for our Afghan breakfast to be ready. I think context is so much of what makes being a human fun. The fact you can decode and comprehend things with bigger vision. My favourite kind of jokes are the ones my friends make in the moment. You can almost feel their brains go into overdrive as they land a statement built on the occasional throwback, situational context, immaculate timing, all resulting in anything from a smirk, giggle or painful cackle.  This Challenger had a similar feel. In the car park at Coles or Woolies and I doubt I'd've written about it. In front of the porno shop, staunched out in cherry red, different story. I could type up some stuff like, V8, over 4hundred ponies, remote start, n'more, but the attraction was when the owner was on the scene. After probably watching us on the cameras for a minute he decided to come out and spit s...

Street Sighting ~ Chrysler Valiant Charger

Image
It's a hard mark to pay with hayfever, but spring in Adelaide really is a nice time of the year. A bita sun during the day, cool-sometimes-still nights, and of course flowers blooming. I had just dropped off the former girlfriends possessions, got back in the ute, and traveled about eighty metres up the road when the obvious caught my eye. Driving past it I said to myself "Hey Charger" like the girl from the commercial. I reckon Dad would have done the same.  The Tonsley built steed still on the clock as a workhorse. I walked around and took a few photos, mostly admiring Aussie muscle still in the field. Only a minute before, I was driving up the road listening to Sia's You've Changed on the verge of crying, now in front of me some metal on rubber and I was smiling? Sometimes I wonder if I'm an observational person or just an idiot. Didn't wonder long, as the owner hailed me down for chat. Andrew bought the car in 1979, since then it has been his car. He ...

Holiday Observations 2

Image
The first Holiday Observations was the penning of sights & stories from going on Holiday with my ( now ex ) girlfriend’s family. You can read about it HERE .  Holiday Observations 2 on the other hand is a shitty write-up-byproduct of fleeing to Darwin for a few days post shotgun to the heart. Crying, blowing my nose, and generally being sad seemed like it would be better with some 30+ degree heat and family. My mum was up north to help look after her Dad while alzheimers takes what’s left of who he is. I figured we could probably use each other at the moment. There are 6 stages to grief. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance and Cars ( no wonder I’ve become single ). Breaking up was one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced. Three, nearly four years, countless highs & lows, some of the best memories, and a fantasy of a future together. All over after a painful conversation. The next morning even worse. The nightmare real, reality ahead of you. Almost in disbel...

Street Sighting ~ Chrysler Valiant

Sooner or later I'll go back to writing about fabulously engineered, poorly maintained Japanese cars. Or wonderfully looked after, hopelessly assembled European automobiles. Oh, and of course anything made by Subaru . Like the image above where my mates and I started our night.  An event called Redline - a car meet and cruise, put on by Uni SA students.  With my car running and driving it seemed a shame to not check it out. So I made the lads suffer a total lack of interior space and drowned complaints with club tracks ( just so everyone could verify my loser status on arrival ). Overall the event exceeded expectations, so-much-so it deserves a proper write up at a later date. So instead you get another shit heap made here in SA. Your welcome. Left-to-right; The place to be, VG-series Val, my mate BT.   So after tuckin my coupe back in the shed we did what most young fellas should do, and headed for the pub. We decided to give the Para Hills com-club a crack. Verdict?...

The Internet Of Old 3

Image
Once upon a time Australia had its own car industry.  But that time has since past, so why bring it up? Well I want to talk about a specific Aussie car, and maybe bang on about our cultural identity. Low resolution imagery of a Holden VL Commodore ( Calais ) with the notable RAC15T plates are the topic of talk. You see whatever your perception is of the Australian people, make sure it's a multi-cultural one. Overtime our immigration laws changed, we imported all kinds of people and slowly as the make up of Australia changed, our identity began to evolve. Yes it's Aboriginal land, but it's inhabited by Australian people. Just as you are the sum of your actions, Australia is its people. Australia is millions of years old, but as a nation it's very young. So when the aussie people needed mobility, they built cars. And cars built in Australia are Australian. No matter how shit some of them are - they are a part of our story. A quarter acre, Hills Hoist & aussie car -...
