Speedhunters calling it quits?

I find myself quite annoyed I didn't try break this story because it has been in the back of my mind for some time now. Throughout my uni degree I would procrastinate by opening Freeskatemag and later Speedhunters.

After making my way through the last year or two worth of articles it became apparent that the frequency or writing was quite slow. Furthermore, the shop section was not functioning. Very early into frequenting the site I decided I wanted a sticker but the store was inactive for so long and when it finally did restock for a short window I missed my opportunity. 

This isn't what raised alarm bells. Before visiting the Subaru F1 car in NSW I pitched various outlets the story including Iamthespeedhunter. Absolute silence compared to other options. After that I pitched them a few more press releases, met with more silence.

This coincided with DinoDC launching his YouTube channel and Chaydon Ford becoming much more active on Instagram. They along with others started to focus on their own personal brands alot more - the point at which I started to question what was going on at Speedhunters.

I asked a few contributors if Iamthespeedhunter was still even an active email just in case I was going about an attempt to write incorrectly to which they either didn't know or informed me;

sept 24 - 'It's a bit of a weird time - the editor who reviews them is only part time at the moment, so it may not get picked up for a while'

This was fine, I figured I was both a small fish and didn't have my finger on the pulse of what interested them. However, other big outlets (at least in Australia) gave me acknowledgement of receiving emails. 

I can only imagine the decline of Speedhunters is relative to turning a profit and reevaluating how to do that. This kind of medium is very dead. Either way if Speedhunters does call it a day, on a personal note I do feel sad to have not cracked writing for them despite best efforts. 

On that note I plan to take the blog alot more seriously. Here's the Drives coverage:

This will be long and lack any sort of direction, forgive me. This All Japan Day was far more relaxed for me, as I decided early on I wouldn't be making a video like last year: As a result I picked up fellow enthusiast/blog author Nick at about 10:30ish in the Vortex . Flying in from Canada at 4:00AM Nick somehow still had energy, and as we cruised down south we picked apart the in's & out's of the strange Subaru .   I did feel a touch guilty that it only received a garden hose spray-down & leaf blower dry off. Street Sighting ~ Subaru WRX

This car has passed, been opposite and crossed in front of me multiple times driving. Every time so incredibly short - enough to bug me with intrigue.  So to finally see it standing still I took my chance to pass, circle, cross it & take pics. I found it pretty perplexing. Close examination revealed it was more setup as a track toy and yet every prior interaction it was running the streets. Normally when I type up these street sightings I undertake a bit of guess work. But for this rather unique looking rexy, with no internet presence, I attempted some research ( desperate to know more ). Lucky one bloke came through ( Cheers Grant ). The car has been an SA car for at least half a decade, starting life as a street car that progressed into its current state. Motor wise a built 2litre mated to a STI 6speed gives it the ducks guts. Car Feature ~ Subaru Vortex

Subinats 24' was a wild ride. While strolling the show & shine, making sure to get enough footage, I finally got to meet Shane. Meeting another Vortex owner is a rare occurrence and Shane didn't disappoint. A super genuine dude, we talked wedge, getting the run down on his Wynn's Safari inspired Vortex .    I'll type up a page on that car soon, but during the tour, Shane told me he was not alone. There was another Vortex at Subinats.  At that very moment I noticed a red coupe. It was absolutely hauling ass around the elevated sections of Sydney Motorsport Park. Once Shane's attention had turned to the parade lap I knew it was my job to go track down the red Vortex . Seeing Grant's car in front of me was VERY surreal.
