Khanacross

Image
Friday, the night before Round 7 of the SA Khanacross Championship . I had just spent my evening working and planning how I was going to DIY some mudflaps for the Pulsar ( both my daily driver and comp car ). After spending some hours on it, I eventually gave up on the rear mudflaps. It was half past midnight and sleep was realistically the priority. I set the alarm for 7:15am , aiming for a 9am arrival at scrutineering. I woke up at a quarter to 9 . In an absolute panic. Fortunately I had packed the car the night before. But with an hour's drive ahead and scrutineering closing at 9:30 , I was in a serious rush. I showed up 15 minutes after scrutineering had closed, however, all was not lost because, Bob - the head of scrutineering & absolute champ wasn’t fussed about the situation. With that out of the way driving became front of mind. The conditions looked decent. There had been a bit of rain the weekend prior, but it was mostly dry with the exception of two large mud puddle...

Sultan of Brunei photo leak

Image
This leak is likely to be everywhere, and I couldn't help but get in on the action. The leak contains an incredible amount of never before seen photos - depicting the massive car collection amassed by the Sultan of Brunei. I had a ball going through the drive which can be accessed HERE . But one car caught me off guard, and I'm sure it will be big news here in Aussie land very shortly. Yes it is indeed a Group A VN SS Commodore. Just like the one I saw recently at the Adelaide 500 . Anyway this was an exciting lunch break.

NEW AUTHORS

Image
INTO THE FOLD Yep, I'm adding more authors to the blog. I'm not actually sure what this blog is going to be, but I want it to be more than just my yarns and opinions. I hope that one day a dedicated domain will take a prospective reader to a worthwhile collection of media to sift through.    I used to think blogging was an arrogant practice, but since everyone wants to be front & centre of short form vertical videos there is no harm going the opposite way. In the past year I've relied on many abandoned Japanese blogs about cars and was motivated from there to start my own. Big thanks to anyone who reads, chur.   Words by Henry

Street Sighting ~ Mitsubishi Galant VR-4

Image
You are probably  going to look at the images in this post and think, is it really a street sighting if the car is in a car park? Firstly, I was walking down Grant Avenue when I spied the VR-4 and secondly, it's my blog - I shall do as I please. So without further ado... Not the nicest images ( blame the lighting ), but this isn't exactly Speedhunters . In hindsight I would have overlooked this car if it hadn't been for the tow point sticker on the rear bumper. And in case your looking at the TTR decal scratching your head... Putting aside the crooked park, bad lighting and patina, I was actually very excited when my eyes caught the Galant VR-4 badging. While Mitsubishi manufactured a few cars with the Galant name, along with some badge engineering it's best to think of this model simply as the VR-4 . Looking at it in isolation it really was just a precursor to Evo I , but has a special place amongst rally fans. While the introduction of the RX Leone may be seen as...

2024 Vailo Adelaide 500

Image
Firstly, despite my ever increasing attraction to cars the Adelaide 500 was not an event I expected to find myself at. So how did I wind up at the 25th year of the Repco Supercars Championship?  That would be thanks to my girlfriend. After her father passed away his interests became a valuable point of connection and so being a Holden man was a start , but it was the shared love of Crowded House that made her pull the trigger on tickets.  When I was in middle school I wanted to go the Clipsal 500 ( old sponsor ) but could never swing the opportunity. So it was nice to finally be on the other side of the fence. We were only there for the Saturday (a pity because my brother was performing with his band on Sunday) and while I could have taken more photos I just operated off impulse and took a few photos of things that made me reach into my pocket and pull out my phone. Trucks are not something I've ever been interested in and I can't see that changing anytime soon. That said ...

Street Sighting ~ Subaru Brumby

Image
Always pleasant to spot a small ute. This example had it's U-plates looking rather fresh. It was a tidy and straight example with two real stand out features. Firstly, these decals which I presume were a dealership side effect & look good against the tan. And secondly, this is the first Brumby I've seen with what looks to be a factory option cassette player. Not a bad way to be motoring in 2024.

Street Sighting ~ Toyota Supra

Image
This gen-3 A70 supra really caught my fancy. I was quite happy with taking a squiz. Prior to this I'm not sure I'd ever seen one in the metal. It gave off the sense that it was a one owner car.   A real grand coupe. Much wider and longer than I expected.   Sure I'll admit it's not really my cup of tea but that doesn't stop me fantasizing about a decent night time highway cruise accompanied by Aphex Twin track Ageispolis . But that's just me.

Yahoo Auctions Subaru Leone (rabbit hole)

Image
Firstly apologies for yet another post on the Subaru Leone that's up for grabs on yahoo auctions . In case you haven't read it you can HERE . So of course I've had some trouble getting the car out of my mind. Because so few older subies made it to Aus and even fewer have survived, seeing a minter creates lust & fascination.  I met Tony Parle earlier this year, who told great yarns about the early coupes, notably the GSR and how a certain GL made him a Subaru man for life. It also won a few drags and impressed the local rotary tuner so I'm electing to blame that as well. Getting back on track, the red sedan had caught my attention for another reason, especially since sedans usually aren't my thing. ( Some exceptions include the Cefiro, Legacy/Liberty, 850 R & Galant VR4 )  Eventually I resorted to my Subaru senpai Gingo Gojo, scouring his blog with key terms and found it. A Japanese film called Double Clutch. A film staring...  some actors/actresses. But real...

Street Sighting ~ Mitsubishi Sigma

Nothing really to say about this one. Sometimes I just post to document the spot and this is certainly one of those. Certainly not exciting but it remains on the road and getting about so maybe it deserves a little recognition.

Yahoo Auctions Subaru Leone (Sedan)

Image
I often find myself looking at cars for sale online and I'm sure you do too. I came across this car and thought considering the resurfacing of related media, why not give it a little feature. After all this generation of Leone is often underappreciated and even referred to as a fugly, because it looks fucking ugly. But styling is a matter of opinion and while I hands down prefer the coupe which even then looks about the same I still really like the older subies. This one in particular has clocked up 95,800 kilometres and looks to be a fairly well loved survivor.    Despite the low quality Yahoo Auction photos you have probably picked up on a few things. Yes it is 4-wheel-drive and uses the early Subaru selection system of front-wheel-drive engage-able to 4WD.  It is indeed a four speed manual and has a tachometer surprisingly. And your thinking is correct, the interior is actually quite nice. But what exactly is a SEEC-T 1600CC 4 cylinder boxer engine?   While it is...
