Yahoo Auctions Subaru Leone (Sedan)
I often find myself looking at cars for sale online and I'm sure you do too. I came across this car and thought considering the resurfacing of related media, why not give it a little feature. After all this generation of Leone is often underappreciated and even referred to as a fugly, because it looks fucking ugly.
But styling is a matter of opinion and while I hands down prefer the coupe which even then looks about the same I still really like the older subies. This one in particular has clocked up 95,800 kilometres and looks to be a fairly well loved survivor.
Despite the low quality Yahoo Auction photos you have probably picked up on a few things. Yes it is 4-wheel-drive and uses the early Subaru selection system of front-wheel-drive engage-able to 4WD.
It is indeed a four speed manual and has a tachometer surprisingly. And your thinking is correct, the interior is actually quite nice. But what exactly is a SEEC-T 1600CC 4 cylinder boxer engine?
While it is a great bit of marketing it doesn't exactly explain how it works. However, thanks to a forum answer on the Ultimate Subaru Message Board, SEEC-T or Subaru Exhaust Emission Control Technique was a clever trick where the system introduces fresh air into the combustion chamber that works with the air/fuel mixture to sandwich unburned exhaust (which comes in through a special air-intake valve) and ensures more complete burning. This not only cleans up the exhaust, but allows the engine to run a leaner mixture of fuel. This meant the car did not require any sort of catalytic converter. Actually pretty cool, a somewhat emissions friendly, go anywhere, under dog sedan (& wagon).
The visual marketing for this generation of car is great. My personal favourite being the Subaru Marine outboard in the back of the wagon or Estate Van.
Anyway, here is the link to the car but chances are it's gone by now:
