Bruce Willis Legacy

When you think of Bruce Willis no doubt films like Die Hard, Pulp Fiction or maybe even Red come to mind. And that's fair enough. Bruce Willis has done five Die hard films alone, but this isn't about what he's known for, this is about his forgotten Legacy...

That's right Bruce did some advertisement work for Subaru Japan which included press shots for relevant brochures and some strange but very Japanese video commercials.

I tried my best to research why Bruce Willis may have been appealing to the Japanese market and came up with nearly nothing. Nearly nothing, because after all he does save Japanese businessman Yoshinobu Takagi from losing millions in bearer bonds in Die Hard

Have to admit it, he does make the wagon present more suave.

Or maybe that's just two-tone doing its thing. The internet unfortunately led me a astray, with rumors of a special Bruce edition Legacy. But after digging up as much as possible I found no evidence such model exists.

Despite the low resolution I was able to translate some of the description next to Bruce Willis. The only notable info being he became popular for lead role in "day hard" film.

Die Hard came out in 1988, the Legacy 1989. I'm guessing Subaru had the intention of adding a bit of masculinity to what would really be a car for educated and possibly frugal buyers. Later on they would use Mel Gibson before bringing Bruce Willis back into the fold.

Subaru, like other manufacturers at the time loved using cars, seaside as the setting for ads. And it certainly works. The later Legacy looks both right at home and absolutely tough. But let's stay focused on Bruce Willis.

Like I explained earlier, there is no Bruce edition but we do get a different wardrobe change for the trim levels.

He would go on to do more Legacy ads, a few for the Outback and possibly more which I'll leave you, the reader to dig up.

Here in Australia the Legacy was called the Liberty and after disappointing sales it stopped being sold in Australia and Japan in 2020. It won't be making a return in 2025 either, as the age of Legacy comes to an end worldwide. Yippee Ki Yay Subaru Legacy.
