Street Sighting ~ Subaru Brumby

You know that thing that happens where you never see a model of car, but then, after deciding not to buy one they keep turning up everywhere?

Well that's the Subaru Brumby. I can't recall seeing one of these where I live EVER, and now there's two around the corner from me.

As far as Brumbies come this one was tidy. I'm guessing it may have had a respray because all the factory decals were missing and the paint was pretty good.

Earlier this year I was seriously gunning to sell my daily and replace it with one of these, but between the used car market falling and the newly introduced Brumby tax I've probably missed my window. However, seeing examples like this living in the burbs gives me hope.

Subaru got so much right with these cars and it's no wonder they're a cult classic. When I was in middle school a friends old man had one. They were originally farmers who'd packed up shop in Broken Hill. I can imagine there was one for every country town not too long ago. Now, not so much. In fact earlier this year on the drive from Adelaide to Sydney and back, my mate and I played a game of first to spot a Brumby. We clocked up about twenty Proton Jumbuck's proving the demand for a small ute. And finally on the way back I spotted one in Tooleybuc NSW, sitting street side. Shot on film by my mate Austin.

In a world where the decal-less Brumby belonged to me, I would probably listen to ABC 891 radio, hanging on the chance to catch Conversations.
