Holiday Observations 2

Image
The first Holiday Observations was the penning of sights & stories from going on Holiday with my ( now ex ) girlfriend’s family. You can read about it HERE .  Holiday Observations 2 on the other hand is a shitty write-up-byproduct of fleeing to Darwin for a few days post shotgun to the heart. Crying, blowing my nose, and generally being sad seemed like it would be better with some 30+ degree heat and family. My mum was up north to help look after her Dad while alzheimers takes what’s left of who he is. I figured we could probably use each other at the moment. There are 6 stages to grief. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance and Cars ( no wonder I’ve become single ). Breaking up was one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced. Three, nearly four years, countless highs & lows, some of the best memories, and a fantasy of a future together. All over after a painful conversation. The next morning even worse. The nightmare real, reality ahead of you. Almost in disbel...

Street Sighting ~ Chrysler Valiant

Sooner or later I'll go back to writing about fabulously engineered, poorly maintained Japanese cars. Or wonderfully looked after, hopelessly assembled European automobiles. Oh, and of course anything made by Subaru . Like the image above where my mates and I started our night.  An event called Redline - a car meet and cruise, put on by Uni SA students.  With my car running and driving it seemed a shame to not check it out. So I made the lads suffer a total lack of interior space and drowned complaints with club tracks ( just so everyone could verify my loser status on arrival ). Overall the event exceeded expectations, so-much-so it deserves a proper write up at a later date. So instead you get another shit heap made here in SA. Your welcome. Left-to-right; The place to be, VG-series Val, my mate BT.   So after tuckin my coupe back in the shed we did what most young fellas should do, and headed for the pub. We decided to give the Para Hills com-club a crack. Verdict?...

The Internet Of Old 3

Once upon a time Australia had its own car industry.  But that time has since past, so why bring it up? Well I want to talk about a specific Aussie car, and maybe bang on about our cultural identity. Low resolution imagery of a Holden VL Commodore ( Calais ) with the notable RAC15T plates are the topic of talk. You see whatever your perception is of the Australian people, make sure it's a multi-cultural one. Overtime our immigration laws changed, we imported all kinds of people and slowly as the make up of Australia changed, our identity began to evolve. Yes it's Aboriginal land, but it's inhabited by Australian people. Just as you are the sum of your actions, Australia is its people. Australia is millions of years old, but as a nation it's very young. So when the aussie people needed mobility, they built cars. And cars built in Australia are Australian. No matter how shit some of them are - they are a part of our story. A quarter acre, Hills Hoist & aussie car -...

The Internet Of Old 2

I'm keen to try push out the internet of old into more of a series as there's so much great stuff to share. Initially I was going to do the series 'When Bogans Attack' but then I remembered a much more significant video to discuss.  It begins with the bloke recording having a crack at rehearsing an introduction and then on the second attempt he bloody nails it...    Yeah, this is Bouverie street. Where all the drags happen. From Monday to Friday this place comes alive with the hottest cars in Melbourne; Commodores, Falcons, rotaries, you name it. It all happens here at Bouverie street, Carlton.   I'm not going to write much about the video because it speaks for itself through its incredible ability to peer into a time long past. I hope you enjoy it. If you are still in the mood for a read check out; The Internet Of Old 1

CAR VISION

First credit goes to Zigg for bringing this to my attention, second goes to Brent Lawson for posting in the XT/XT6 Facebook group. I'm a sucker for cool stuff and this is cool stuff so let's start at the beginning. My mate Ziggy sent me an Instagram post of an XT6 I recognised. The car belongs to Bucky Lasek . He almost needs his own post, so to quickly summarise Lasek has been a Pro skateboarder, rallycross driver and is a devout Subaru enthusiast. Ingredients to capture my attention. Owning an XT ( Vortex in Aus ) I watched his XT6 car build on YouTube closely so I know his car when I see it ( Custom BoxerBeauty.com stickers make it hard not to ). This was different though, as it was now sporting a new set of wheels, unlike what it wore in the past. The wheels instantly caught my attention, they are H pattern. This style of wheel is pretty damn uncommon, and outside of my own Subaru I haven't seen any in the flesh. These were a must have wheel for my car - they ...
