Street Sighting ~ Subaru Brumby

Image
You know that thing that happens where you never see a model of car, but then, after deciding not to buy one they keep turning up everywhere? Well that's the Subaru Brumby . I can't recall seeing one of these where I live EVER, and now there's two around the corner from me. As far as Brumbies come this one was tidy. I'm guessing it may have had a respray because all the factory decals were missing and the paint was pretty good. Earlier this year I was seriously gunning to sell my daily and replace it with one of these, but between the used car market falling and the newly introduced Brumby tax I've probably missed my window. However, seeing examples like this living in the burbs gives me hope. Subaru got so much right with these cars and it's no wonder they're a cult classic. When I was in middle school a friends old man had one. They were originally farmers who'd packed up shop in Broken Hill. I can imagine there was one for every country town not too ...

Street Sighting ~ Nissan 180SX

Image
I mean the red 200SX was a pretty rare sighting in my neck of the woods, but a 180SX in the same week was a legitimate surprise. There is so much to like about the 180SX, but I come from the wrong time period. It's not a culture I know, instead it's one I've admired from a far. My love for the S-chassis in general is very recent. With so much influence from the internet I sometimes find myself wondering if I think it's cool or I've been influenced to think it's cool. Either way it's cool, and this one had the type-x kit (No clue if it was always a type-x trim car) . Personally I really like the look of the kit until you reach the rear of the car. The valences are fine, it's really just the wing that does nothing for me. I prefer a duckbill style for most applications. Like most of the cars I end up writing about this on wasn't perfect, but that's a good thing. A car like this gets half it's credibility for they way and how they're driven....

Street Sighting ~ Ford F250

Image
F-series truck, yes that's right it's a truck.  I know that being a Ford or a GM guy is a thing, and an American truck down-under is a free pass at a bunch of cliches, but I think I'm okay. Yes, to someone this is a boring spot and to others it's an great catch, but that's all cars.  To me, spotting this car was a form of entertainment, a reminder we can all be different. A quick look over and it had a mountain bike setup in the cab.  Someone uses this car, they put their bikes in the back, get in on the wrong side, and drive it. It's a lifestyle choice, and people like me benefit as I examine difference. The alternative, a ford ranger with a mat protecting the tail gate isn't worth taking photos of. This is. So tunes wise, it would have to be something to get you amped to ride Fox Creek , sound a bit American but be manufactured domestically... Maybe, Blind , from the original Tomorrow-EP by Silverchair .

Street Sighting ~ Volvo 740GL

Image
I have a soft spot for a Volvo. And this 740GL is no exception. I think if you are someone who doesn't care for cars, a Volvo is perfect. I mean that with no disrespect to the brand, or its owners. I too once owned a Volvo and if my bank account permitted, I would again. You see, if you don't care about cars or the driving experience you may as well get something that will keep you alive. It's not a stupid logic either, crashing a car doesn't have to be your fault. There are more than enough idiots on the roads that could ruin your day, or your life. So selecting a Swedish brick to get around is a sane choice.     Now while it may look like a car 9-year-old me could have drawn after first discovering a ruler, it's actually very stylish. Had the owner spent a little more they could have had a Bertone design, but here we are. At least the blue looks good, very national. So what would be playing as I drive to my nine-to-five? Probably, No Tears by Scarface , just like...

Street Sighting ~ Nissan 200SX

Image
I was cruising back from my local mechanic when I spied bright red in the absolute corner of my vision. Hooked a right and did a lap back to see what had caught my attention. I pulled over to take the mandatory photos, proof of sighting. Normally I would just put one or two photos on my Instagram story, where it would likely annoy my friends & family to see how I spend my time. But now I have this blog, and a non-existent reader base so I thought I would take the opportunity to document my sightings better, and maybe type up some thoughts/opinions on what I encounter. So without further ado, let me tell you what I think about this S14 kouki 200SX...   I can't be sure if it's Nissan aztec red, but going off the Z32 my girlfriends grandpa owns it's very likely. Overall the paint, and car was in very good condition. It falls into my favourite classification, survivor spec. It wasn't perfect but that just makes it more real in person.  I know in the s-chassis world t...

HOW TO GO FISHING 1

Image
I couldn't tell you exactly where I was but I remember getting a phone call from my mate Tom. It went a little something like "I'm here with, Ethos [other mate] and we've had a proper look, it seems like a good deal". Site unseen I hedged my bets on their judgement (mainly Ethan being sensible) and decided that I would invest and go equal thirds on our new tinny.  Later that day I remember Tom sending me a Snapchat photo of the purchase and thinking there might be some responsibility to what I'd just opted into. Nevertheless, I didn't have to store the boat so that was my main concern out of the picture. And importantly it was cheap, the prerequisite for most purchases on student wages. It should also be noted at this point all three of us did not possess cars with tow hitches or boat licenses for that matter. We did, however, have a dream to sink suds in the sunshine, catch ourselves dinner, and look back on the beach goers as we kick it at ...
