Street Sighting ~ Triumph TR7

I'm going to call this one - How to sports car, an orthodox look at a British motor car down under.

Starting with the obvious, bright yellow at the-drop-of-a-hat tells everyone wait one second this might be interesting.

When British Leyland starting advertising these they went with "the shape of things to come" which is honestly not half bad - kinda similar to the car. The yellow paint on this one was real schmico but void of any decals hinting it's a respray. Nothing wrong with that. I really like the yellow over black along with the strange convertible sunroof?

My opinions on sunroofs/verts should probably be established. As an owner I think I'd normally prefer a slick top car because it usually means less to go wrong or rust. But I also have long blonde hair so I owe it to myself to enjoy blowing wind through it when possible. Conflicting but oh well. In this case I'm all for it. It looks maintained, simple and the black on top of the yellow creates a sort of visual effect that makes the car look more sleek than it is.

Between the classy chrome windshield surround, hood vents and green tartan interior you would feel your own steez (style with ease) when behind that wheel.

And as it should be; manual five speed box behind 2litre inline four is all you need to have fun. Sure most sports cars tend to have a V8 or turbo poster version, but steppin on the pedal to make a humble four sing is always great fun.

The design of the TR7 has grown on me rapidly. I used to find the rear end sort of unfinished but the front is a cracker. Sleek, sharp with pop-ups and a pointy front bar. This 70s approach to the folded paper design language has just a few more curves to it that makes it the best - with the Holden Hurricane concept car being the pinnacle.

The wedge of cheddar also has a few tweaks that dare I say make me like it even more. A simple list of ingredients that produce a fail proof recipe in my cookbook. Starting with a set of Performance wheels, in this case thirteen inch marques...

These simple finned wheels give the car a sporting look as if it does the odd hill climb or classic category time stage. Performance wheels are a great choice in my opinion because they embody a different time. Wheels manufactured in Australia with high quality licensed designs aimed for enthusiast cars.

Pop-up headlights look great but they do a pretty shit job at lighting up the road in most conditions, so some assistance from additional fog lights to help illuminate the corners is a solid move.

These old aussie made wagner lights, made in the eighties are sure to help give the illusion of additional light when in fact they likely do fuck all. Remember it's the thought and looks that counts. Like what's happening at the back of the car.

One might think this aussie made redback muffler might give the car a little bit more power when really it just helps the 2litre sing its lines in a deeper tone. Regardless, I'm for it.

I'm not sure what TR triple 0 seven has to do with the car seeing it's just a TR7 and it would need one less zero to be a James Bond reference. So instead I'll speculate wildly. I'm going to interpret the number plate as referring to a spectacular business arrangement whereby a Kangaroo gave up its life to give this car a lovely paint job after triggering an agreement with Shannon's insurance.

Hence it is now the TROOO7. A green and gold English delivered but perfected in aussie land, sports car. Made to be driven to lawn bowls on a Wednesday morning. And enjoyed by idiots like me. Who given the chance would drive the tits off the thing to the sweet sounds of Sherbets' Howzat. (Until it inevitably overheats) Thanks for reading.
