Tow Rig
On route to our pre-fishing dinner I spotted this car parked about a hundred metres in the distance. My two mates didn't share my desire to turn around and go check it out so we continued to dinner but agreed to go back. After grabbing a crappy Carl's Jr thirty-bucks for four peoples worth of junk food we headed towards the Jetty with a detour for the VL.
Nearing the car I was making excuses to my mates; it might be a Camira or VL's are worth a tonne so we should investigate no matter what...
Fortunately my vision remains totally beast and it was a VL. The catch being that it's still driven, and what kind of VL is still getting wheeled around by some old fella?
Answer: A shit one.
But beggars can't be choosers so let me walk you around it...
I actually don't think it's that bad considering what a VL of similar condition could set you back. That doesn't mean the tape on the front-bumper and around the windshield shouldn't be ignored though. And yes the wheel choice sucks but stock height is promising. It gets better..
Not anymore it isn't.
Don't let the panel gap, top notch parking, and festival state U-plates distract you from the fact this thing has a trailer hitch (the license plate is holding onto it with wire). And it gets even better again...
Don't let the missing glove box, arm-rest, and shifter surround trim distract you from the fact this thing is a manual. And sure tunes come from the JBL speaker you bring with you because the radio is missing (stolen). Anyhow, I wanted it because if there was ever going to be a VL Commodore I could afford it was going to be this one.
I walked over to the pokies that facilitated the car park to have a suss if I could guess the owner, and if not get some paper and a pen from reception. I wrote out my note because just about every bloke playing the machines could have owned the car. The note read;
Hey Mate, want some $$$ for your car? - my name & number.
He's never going to call me because a rego check indicates the car is somehow on historic registration. I thought a car club had to inspect it for it's MR1 form?
Obviously old mate has a way.
Please call me back, it will be reborn.
Tow rig.
