Street Sighting ~ Honda S2000

Image
Nothing crazy with this one - just seen it walking to the shops on my break. Very stock, very simple looking. Hard top doesn't look to shabby either.   As much as I love stock cars (survivors), the S2000 doesn't quite do it for me. I think in Australia they avoided ever hitting low values and were held onto by first and second owners. As a result many of these remain in the hands of baby boomers whom kept them factory.  Don't get me wrong I do like the factory Honda wheels I just think some flashy wheels, good fitment and meaty tyres would give the car a different vibe.    Another small observation that might come from owning an NA MX-5 is the arse end of the S2K is also quite disappointing. Maybe I'm being unfair? I also found the headlight washers kind of cheap looking or distracting. Tip of the hat to the owner for parking it behind Target Unley - bit of a gamble. So in line with that attitude I would blast Just Don't Give A Fuck by Eminem and perform some circ...

Street Sighting ~ Mitsubishi Triton

I wouldn't normally bite on a four-wheel-drive but nostalgia and curiosity won. You see when I was in high school my mate Tristan showed me the Instagram account for this car. Back then I was more into 4WD's simply because my mates were. The basic run down of this car is actually quite simple, take an ML Triton - stick it on a Nissan GQ Patrol chassis and power it with a 5 litre V8 out of a SS VT Commodore . It was originally built by Brett Holbourne who eventually sold it. The most impressive part about this car is really the fact it's fully engineered and approved by Transport SA. To me this just seems crazy but I guess Brett was able to jump through hoops and defeat the bureaucracy. I wonder how often the new owner gets pulled over. Maybe it would be fun to look down on everyone as I drive around listening to Future Times by Hit Man .

Holiday Observations

So for the past week I've had the luxury of being on holiday with my girlfriends family. I didn't have any intentions of doing a post while away but sitting in the departure lounge going through my camera roll there is some stuff worth sharing. Starting with this Toyota Vienta to set the pace... We were having lunch during an ebike ride to some waterfalls when I spied this setup. While it's a given that the tank is empty, the twisty roads still make this strap-down-success very impressive. I can just imagine the shit eating grin on whoever ghetto rigged this up as they drive past those who said it couldn't be done. It was on the same ride I came across a Holden VC commo stationwagon. Stickers indicating it had sat since 2019. Definitely a bit tired.   Note the padlock on the automatic shift control     I cant say I'm a fan but as time goes on I am beginning to warm up to the early Commodores . Maybe I just feel sad for them, like an extreme empath? Continuing on t...

Street Sighting ~ BMW E9 (3.0 CSL)

First day of the new year and what a day to be a bloke on his way to the shops... But first some looking back in time. Growing up I've been fortunate to be surrounded by neighbours with cool cars, usually something classic and an MX-5 to flog. One of these neighbours, Ian , had an MX-5 , a hot Alfa Romeo hatch and a beautiful BMW E3 . Being honest, as a teenager none of these cars really appealed to me. My old man on the other-hand would see the beamer parked out front and make an excuse to go have a look. In fact I would often get persuaded into going with Dad to see what cars were parked there, as Ian's mates would often have equally intriguing cars. One time that meant having a gander at a freshly imported Ferrari from Japan.   Ian sold off some of his cars as his health rapidly declined and he eventually passed away. I remember he went back and fourth on whether he was going to sell the beamer. It was a beautiful orange colour and so well maintained I picture it in my m...
