INTERNET GHETTO

Image
After some years of ig admiration, I met up with @internetghetto to set scenes n' chase aesthetics. In 25’ I wrote about the Silvia sitch in Oz floating it to Luke - @internetghetto , for his ten cents. The car in that write-up was first owned in Oz by a Christies beach police officer. So for a shoot staring Luke's machine it made sense to head down the road, past the cop-shop and make some magic in the projects. Luke grew up on the mid coast and has watched its rapid gentrification. "yeah it was definitely a lot more hectic here in like 2006." "You gotta watch that @BOBSTA video where he does a walkaround." Overall the mid coasts reputation for being a gronk stomping ground is shifting, (but still present) . In a housing crisis the chance to live closer to the coast is hot product. Scenes like this housing trust will eventually change - the same way you won't see headz sliding Jap beer cans around the Hackham indusso . "What happened to the ...

Noosa surf sled. This one's the '79 MX36  model. I loved the patinated but lustrous cherry red, mismatched wheels and tires, beach-bum interior, and particularly the chrome wind deflectors - probably some rare dealer option. But what I liked most about this car is it is keeping the surf bum trope going. I've been road-tripping lately, from Southern NSW to Noosa so far. It seems that in the 2020's, with old cars being ever rarer and more valuable, the surf bum's traditional ride has been replaced with 2020's options. Best case is a free candy  spec white van, and worst case is an E-bike with a surfboard carrier . I'm not much of a surfer, but still reckon it's a pretty integral part of Aussie culture. To see just what the Aussie surf bum car culture of the 80's onwards was like, I reached out to my dad, who grew up in Torquay. I sent him a pretty specific message asking for pics of his (and mate's) old rides with surfboards strapped to them. I fig...

As time goes on it's becoming apparent the idea that cars, despite their rather simplistic purpose, are no longer going to be another colour in this world. What I mean by that, is the fast approaching day when I look out at the world in front of me, and my car observations are within a uniform. You see the world is made up many things you can see if you know how to. Things like the law, economics, technology, and more are things many will never really pay attention to. But they are there - you can see em. But you have to be literate to read them properly. The literacy that fascinates me the most by far, is the way people live. This encompasses a massive amount of study and observation to confidently read. I can barely comprehend let alone understand how we as a species choose and of course don't choose to live. But this is all way too heavy to bring to a write up about a car.  So to simplify, I am going to miss when people stop making choices about cars that go against financia...

ALL JAPAN DAY FINALE ROUND UP

Image
Before I jot down a bunch of takes & observations, I want to thank the event organisers in case they somehow end up reading this. I really do love AJD and it was a pleasure to have a car in the event. All Jap was the first car show I ever participated in (3 years ago) and since then the role of cars in my life has evolved dramatically. My car (silver) AJD 23' With all that out of the way it's time rip this event to shreds. For anyone expecting a comprehensive overview with a million pictures taken on an expensive DSLR - head to ig, bruz. Instagram will be completely polluted with images of this event, taken by the worst jits about, tryna build internet reach with no real contribution.  Ah, I cant cite the source, but watching any short-form vertical-video from this event is like smoking 20 packets a day but for your brain. Time to rifle through it. Best vehicle: The datto ute was merely a prop to flex this Haro Group 1 - no resto, chromoly machine. Tuff twos I reckon, but c...
