Street Sighting ~ Toyota Corolla (AE92)

What you are about to read or more likely scroll is what I would consider peak CS. A boring car, a really boring car, but clean - a survivor.

The kind of car you see a Facebook post about saying 'Remember when these were everywhere?' before you to read the real stories of people in the comments, smile, and forget that we all drive imported battery packs.

So here's to the now, when I feel thankful the powers of observation can afford me a lovely conversation about being grateful and looking after things with my fellow Australian.

Corolla Seca, CSI, silver, mass produced, boring, slow, clean, in good condition, clean, well loved, clean, far from fun to drive, clean, and also clean.

Not long ago I would have felt like I was looking down the double barrel of a shotgun pressed against my life (being attracted to a automatic Seca). I could not consider liking or driving such a car. Too boring. A naive and disrespectful perspective of a car I assumed was reserved for the either the poor or the meek. Not wrong but not right.

But times have changed. I am even sillier, thinking I am mature. The truth is I'm just scared of what comes next. And so I feel I must capture cars and moments like these before I don't see them again.

I used to walk up to my local primary school with my brothers. I remember days when we would get there too early. A teacher of mine drove one of these. It was white and beat up. I remember feeling sorry for her. Even back then I somehow assumed this was not an aspirational car. And yet when I saw this one I was captivated. What a hard life many of its brothers and sisters lived, but not this one. Engineered for the neglectful consumer Toyota made it to go to work - literally.

Every piece has to play a role. And yet this rolla didn't seem like it ever hit the chessboard.

Limited. That's the thing about a pawn - make it to the other side of the board unscathed, and it can become a queen.

There are many songs in contention, but I've been listening to my Culture Kings Vol 2 CD in the ute a lot lately. So in respect to hindsight I'd park in the top car park of Linden Park Primary School and listen to Still Kings by Delta.
