FOR SALE - 1990 SUBARU L SERIES STATION WAGON - THE RED ROCKET

I am gonna assume the majority who have landed here have done so from the Facebook Marketplace listing.

If you are like me and enjoy a good geez of the market, but find yourself aware of what's on offer - congrats, now you have discovered Adelaide's best car blog. Procrastinate here as well.

Gettin back to the Red Rocket...

I bought this car off FB Marketplace earlier this year - sight unseen. I started doing this thing with a friend where we buy a car every year. A mate dropped another mate & I, with a pack of tools at the ferry to Kangaroo Island. We left the mainland and hiked to where the seller had left the car for us. The car was advertised as the Red Rocket - 95% red.

That trip was awesome. We pottered around the island before bringing it back to the mainland. Since then it has been my toy to take me to university a few times a week plus the odd weekend away. And now it is for sale...

Because Facebook limits the number of photos in a listing, I have dumped many here with a few words to accompany. Hopefully you'll get the picture.

My mate Ziggy, livin it up after a fish off the Vivonne bay Jetty. He ended up sleeping in the car that night.

The death of the station wagon is a book in itself.

And now some as it sits today pics...

All negotiation to be done hostage style over a phone call. There are six cold lives in the back that will only come with the spaceship if you know what you're doin.

90's V-plates and the stock bar which seems to have undergone some chop. Call it a nudge bar now.

Fourteen inch sunnies with MAXXIS tyres come on the car. Will also come with the original wagon wheels I bought it on. Has a set of kings springs in the read, could really use an alignment.

Rust. It has some in the usual places.

The clock on the dash doesn't work. The radio technically does, but play this level of fidelity to a audiophile and they steer into a tree.

The drivers door has stopped locking. I just slip it into low range. They won't get far.

It goes surprisingly really well off road. Just doesn't have much torque - but it will get you there.

So um, rest of the info ay?

Timing belt info - Unknown. In my ownership I changed upper n' lower rad hoses, thermostat, plugs, normal fluids, gave it a clutch cable from the good lads at Subarino, fixed the fuel gauge, temp gauge, replaced the passenger seatbelt and threw a set of Klast Klamps on it to make disconnecting the battery easier.

I reckon every bushing on the thing is flogged and one of the wheel bearings ain't great, plus the exhaust might have a hole or two but it got me where I needed to go and was a heck of a good time.

These cars to me are what the Kombi van was to 60s counter culture. Subaru built an underrated car that will take you anywhere. They are certified cool.

That last photo is of an ex-missus who was really not stoked to go out for lunch without aircon.

$2500, 6pack, full tank of petty - come get it.
