bad idea #1

In 2025 I think it's pretty safe to say mixing music remains extremely popular. It feels like the veil of what's required to be a disc jockey has been lifted, and more people than ever are exploring their relationship with music.   3NDLES5 in Adelaide, 2025. Back in 2024 Jenkem Magazine ran a piece called 'turning classic skate soundtracks into an NTS radio show' where Ben Komins interviewed Gianluca Quagliano about skateboarding & music. In that interview Ben asked;    'Do you think a song can ruin a skate video?'   To which Gianluca responded, 'If a video part is sick, music can make it better. [& more]'   Like most skateboarders I used to make playlists of my favourite songs from video parts.    Later on I would rip raw footage from filmers YouTube channels and make my own re-edits, changing clip order and using songs I thought fit the output. Here's one where I tried to make Leo Valls skate to Mall Grab in an attempt to depict tha...

Street Sighting ~ Toyota Sprinter

Image
Being young and driving an old but fantastic shitbox is valuable experience, set to only improve a person. Driving past the Para Hills education centre I spied a rusty Corolla and stopped to take some pics. It was a beautiful day and I did nothing but smile as I walked around taking pictures out front the school like a pervert. Stock, u-plates, plastic bumpers - oh and red p-plates. Good on the lad or ladette runnin about in this so called Sprinter . I hear, unlike their twin-cam counter parts they suffer from a motor that has one lung and Asthma. Not exactly athletic, but certainly aesthetic. Negativity on the back burner, this is an incredibly cool car for a p-plater, and the fact it is still unspoiled deserves a round of applause. There are many ways to set up one of these cars. As more of a rally inspired idiot I would shoot for an Aussie take on UK spec. I'm talking Performance Superlites , Redback exhaust, Castrol Racing sticker, massive Cibie's , and of course droppi...

CARS N' RUGZ ~ RICK'S FALC

Image
Good bita kit. A few weeks back I ran into my mate Ricky at a gig. I watched the cheeky bugga reach behind the bar once or twice and help his glass to a nice ale on the house. It wasn't too long after he was hanging upside down from the ceiling during the set. While he might seem a bit skitz (which he definitely is), he has his head screwed on pretty tight (ARP studz) . And for a good reason. Ricky is boosted, you see it in everything he does. (BC's, battery relocate, bigga Pulsar turbo, intake, phat front mount) I love writing about cars. I also love writing about the headz that own them. So while he might be tripping his landy to find good surf, and spending long nights sorting out his Patrol/Maverick situation (becoming a body work beast) it's time to pay some attention to his Ford Falcon . Top bloke. After finishing at up at Tafe for the day he pulled into the shed for some quick pics and a run through. We admired how unbelievably good having a car industry was. H...

CARS N' RUGZ ~ KEV'S CROWN

Image
King of the castle. With the Shed , O-block , or even The Castle (whatever you wanna label it) now up-n-runnin it made sense to start featuring some cars n headz starting with the plug; Kev & his jap sedan. Once-upon-a-time Australia got a version of the Crown , until the japs switched onto the fact that Aussies have rocks in their headz.  Case & point my Grandpa at one point had a Crown and later on a Magna . Nowadays Crowns are reserved for a select breed, smart (or stupid) enough to import em. Admittedly, Kevin opened my eyes, and shifted consensus that the glitzy Camry wasn't just reserved for JDM meat-headz/anytime fitness consumers.  If you want a spec sheet to learn about these you've come to the wrong place. Crown , Athlete - sick words, kinda underrated and under-explored when it comes to talking about the steez of these lux machines. And that's what they were ; lux machines, but in Australia I don't think that's the case. It ain't a s...

The world is flat.

Long-winded. Back in 2024 I pitched my mate Austin a road trip to Sydney to see some Subaru action. Timing wasn't fantastic. I was wrapping up another semester of study whilst Aus almost graduating and well in the thick of must do's.  I made sure to turn in assessments on time or early but still had a logbook for a programming subject I had to forge a backlog for. Aus was on his MacBook designing during any down time we had. A flog of a journalism student and a talented graphic designer actually make a pretty good combo, but it was still a mission. Only a few months before, I had been researching the Formula One car Subaru commissioned at the end of the eighties. Somehow the flat 12 powered Subaru 1235 had made it's way to Australia and now resided in the possession of a farmer from Griffith NSW . I was on the HPA forum one night when I came across an arrangement of words that would factor big into my pitch to Aus... Hi all, as I mentioned I am a serious Sub...
